On July 1, in honor of Canada Day, while many stars hail from north of the U.S. border like Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Joshua Jackson, let’s celebrate some of our favorite celebrity moms who call our neighboring country of Canada home — from actors like Rachel McAdams, Anna Paquin, and Shay Mitchell to singers like Celine Dion and Shania Twain, Canada sure is the birthplace of some pretty impressive and famous folks.
And these eh-listers have very fond memories of their childhood home. “The weather, the nature, and to pick tomatoes from our little gardens,” Quebec-native Celion Dion shared while opening up about what it’s like going home with her kids. “It’s amazing to see my kids enjoy where I grew up, where they don’t come enough, and to see their uncles and my mom, and to play outside in their bare feet,” the 52-year-old mom shared. “For the kids to just play badminton and ball, and bicycle… these are the moments that they will never forget. This is a heritage that I give them and I’m so lucky that I was born here. This is the blood that’s going through my veins mixed with some maple syrup. So that’s why I’m a sweet girl.”
Canada is also a special place for Meghan Markle who while not being Canadian-born, lived in Toronto for many years. “Canada is a very special place for both The Duke and Duchess,” Meghan and Prince Harry captioned their Instagram post celebrating Canda Day in 2019. “Their Royal Highnesses have always been touched by the warmth, friendliness and hospitality of the Canadian people.”
So without further adieu, let’s take a look at these celebrity moms who you might not have realized were born in Canada.
