Grab the popcorn and snuggle in as the dark winter nights approach, because I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here is about to return to our TV screens.
Beloved presenters Declan Donnelly and Ant McPartlin will be back together after Ant’s year off, but who are the celebrities being lined up to jump out of a helicopter and then live in a jungle with the horrors of creepy-crawlies and failed politicians?
The bosses of the show have already dropped some big clues about the sort of person they want in the jungle, and the show released a trailer last night showing Ant and Dec trying to find their way to the jungle location, Daily Star reports.
So let’s have a look at which celebrities are rumoured to be booking their flights to Australia and ready to spark texts from your dad which contain the phrase ‘never heard of them’.
Better known as? Mercedes McQueen from TV shock-soap Hollyoaks.
She’s been a stalwart diva in the fictional soap town of Hollyoaks for years, and is apparently due to exit the show in true Hollyoaks style by… checks notes… getting shot in a few weeks’ time, so will be out and free from the daily grind of making a TV soap.
A source told The Sun: “Jen is perfect for the jungle, she’s really funny and attractive and she loves a challenge.” So that’s alright then.
Better known as? Nadine off of Girls Aloud
A member of the big reality-show girl-band that unleashed Cheryl Tweedy-Cole-Fernandez-Versini Tweedy into the world, Nadine is a big star still, and may well be one yer dad has heard of.
She is all grown up now, after infamously being rumbled trying to get on one of the very early ITV talent show iterations while being under-age. Now she’s got a five-year-old daughter, and moved back to her native Northern Ireland after a decade in LA.
One thing that everyone will be interested in will be what she’s got to say about Cheryl. They don’t get on, apparently.
Better known as? Michelle Connor off of Coronation Street
Originally another early Noughties reality-show pop star – extra bonus points if you remember that yes, once, she was in Hear-Say with Myleen Klaas.
For 13 years she’s been a stalwart of Corrie, and is currently found behind the bar at the Rovers. But it was announced earlier this year she’d be leaving the programme at the end of this year – just in time to fly to Australia.
Would she do The Jungle though? Kym, who is also a regular on Loose Women, tackled the subject in her must-read column in OK! magazine. “I wouldn’t the bugs or the sleep deprivation, and I’d never jump out of a helicopter”.
So that’s a no then? “My camp mates would probably starve because I’d fail to win any stars. Never say never, but I don’t want to do any reality shows so soon after leaving the Street later this year.”
Better known as? Olivia off of The Only Way Is Essex and Love Island
The TOWIE star is the first in this list of rumours to have actually confirmed herself that, yes, she has been approached to do I’m A Celebrity, and yes, she would love to do it, so it seems nailed on.
She said: “There have been conversations with I’m A Celebrity, it’s ongoing.
“It would be my dream to do the jungle. I’ve made no qualms about that. It’s such an iconic show.”
She added: “Going out there [for Extra Camp] gave me a taste for it. I got to do a trial, which was amazing.”
Better known as? Myles from a band called Rak-Su
Before you start, Rak-Su was actually a proper band of schoolmates from Watford that entered and won the X-Factor in 2017, singing original songs.
It hasn’t lasted though – in August, less than two years after their triumph, it was reported record label RCA had dropped the band, so it’s about time at least one of their members went in the Celebrity Jungle.
Apparently, he’s already a shoe-in. “Myles is a free agent now and so he can’t wait to go to Australia and get away,” said a source at the programme. “It’s a physical and mental challenge and he’s really looking forward to testing himself.” Sounds likely, then.
Better known as? Paul Hollywood’s ex-girlfriend
OK, so apparently she’s a celebrity, but here’s the thing. Summer worked as a 22-year-old barmaid at Paul Hollywood’s local pub in Kent, and started going out with the Bake Off king after he split from his wife. But their relationship is over, very publicly, because she said she dumped him when he asked her to sign a non-disclosure agreement, before their relationship could continue – after two years. Anyway, that means she’s famous now, and is apparently a bit of a keener to get into the Jungle.
“Summer is the person to sign up right now and she is keen to get herself on television,” a source told MailOnline. “Obviously I’m A Celebrity would be her top prize.”
Better known as? Duncan from Blue
Now this would be a coup. He’s a legit pop star legend, but Duncan from Blue has been popping up regularly on reality TV of late, most recently in – pictured here – Celebrity First Dates, so it appears as if he’s up for doing a bit of telly, like.
According to The Sun, he’s been offered big money to do the Jungle too.
“Producers think he could be telly gold because he will have to face his phobias head-on. The best camp-mates are the ones who have to overcome their fears — and Duncan has told them he is game for anything.”
Better known as? The GC, TOWIE’s Gemma Collins, Gemma Collins
She’s been in before, of course, and lasted three days before she walked out when she realised the stars don’t go off camera and eat do what they like, basically.
The TOWIE legend went on Loose Women the other day and said she’d be prepared to do it, now she has actually realised they do proper camping. “I was meant to go back in the jungle the year after I came out,” she said.
“Do you know what, if it come back again, why not, why not? I would probably be terrible at all the tasks and all that.”
Better known as? Tyrone Hobbs off of Coronation Street
He’s everyone’s lovable everyman on the Street, and the actor that plays Tyrone is hinting that he might be heading Down Under.
It could be a wind-up of course, but he put a picture on social media of him in hiking gear, sitting in some wilderness somewhere, with the caption: ‘It’s a jungle out there’, before adding a bug emoji.
Better known as? Maura, that girl from Love Island
She was the main, break-out hit of Love Island this year, and was very Irish and made great telly.
Someone asked ITV how many retweets on Twitter it would take to get Maura to go into the jungle this year, and they replied 10,000, which isn’t that many, considering millions watch Love Island. So maybe, just maybe….
