After leaked messages and pictures from an Instagram group chat – called Bois Locker Room – glorifying gang rape, showing lewd pictures, and sexually objectifying underage girls went viral, Delhi Police have filed a first information report in connection with the group.
Details from Facebook-owned Instagram with regards to this now-deleted group chat have also been sought by the Delhi Police Cyber Crime Cell for further investigation.
“We have come to know about this through social media monitoring. We haven’t received any complaint in this regard so far. However, we are analysing the social media posts and are looking deeply into the matter,” Anish Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime was quoted by media reports.
Apart from the Delhi Police, the Delhi Commission for Woman (DCW) has also taken cognisance of reports regarding the chat allegedly created by a group of Class 11 and 12 students from Delhi’s top schools.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal issued a notice to Instagram and Delhi Police, urging an inquiry into the matter and the group which was reported to have “discussed techniques of raping women and gang-raping minors”.

“Several other illegal acts and comments have been made on the group. The Commission is in receipt of several screenshots of the group wherein the handle names and the usernames are clearly visible,” the notice said.
The incident, which has since sparked an outrage online with several prominent people calling out the “shocking” and “disgusting” exchange of messages between the South Delhi teens, came to light over the weekend. Several social media users – both on Twitter and Instagram – shared screenshots of this alleged group, which included texts body shaming and slut-shaming young girls and even morphed images of underage girls.
The Delhi Police Cyber Cell has also apprehended a 15-year-old boy and are probing the matter.
