There may be hope for couples like Jesy Nelson and Chris Hughes who have decided to part ways amid the coronavirus lockdown, according to relationship expert Anna Wiliamson.

The Celebs Go Dating relationship guru revealed to Metro.co.uk that extreme situations like the current coronavirus pandemic aren’t usually a good time to make major life decisions like ending a relationship.

Jesy and Chris were the first celeb couple to call it quits in quarantine, closely followed by Love Island’s Wes Nelson and Arabella Chi who also called time on their relationship.

Anna told Metro.co.uk that unless there are fundamental issues which can’t be overcome, rushing into a split in this weird time we are all in may lead to regrets down the line.

She explained: ‘What I would always say is, in this very weird time that we are in which no-one has ever been in before, is not a time for making big changes .

‘Now, obviously, that’s not to say you should stay in a relationship if it’s not going well and if you’re not feeling it, and if you both are unhappy and the writing’s on the wall already, so to speak, then that’s fine.

‘But if a relationship is starting to become strained, because you’re either with each other and becoming very claustrophobic or indeed if you’re apart from each other and the distance is creating an emotional distance as well as a physical one.

‘As far as we know, and we hope to God, this lockdown is a temporary situation and to make any drastic life changes in this time is not advisable.’

Anna revealed that she had seen a surge in demand for her relationship advice from couples since the lockdown began, with many rethinking their personal situation as a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction to their lives being turned upside down by the pandemic.

She explained: ‘I always suggest people don’t make any other drastic changes in your life until you are through the time of stress, so in this case, through the lockdown and the pandemic.

‘It just adds to thestress and it’s only can often feel like you’re making a decision on one thing, ie your relationship, when actually it’s just a symptom of everything else.’

Anna also shed some hope for couples who go through splits in the current lockdown, explaining that things may seem completely different when life goes back to normal down the line.

‘I would say never say never. I think we’re in such a strange time that no-one’s ever been in before and people will obviously be feeling and thinking all kinds of things.

‘So I would absolutely say that if you’ve made a decision during this time, and that when we come out of it with the benefit of hindsight and with the benefit of space and being able to go back to your normal life with hopefully a clear and more positive headspace, I would absolutely revisit it.

‘Go back and have the conversation about what happened and if you want to rekindle it and it can happen, I would absolutely suggest that.

‘Everyone I think can be forgiven for making rash, irrational decisions at this time.’
